Welcome to Katty Korner.
This is how Katty Korner was started…
About 100 miles south of the San Diego/Tijuana border, is a little village called
Cantu, just southwest of Ensenada. A lot of tourists and visitors drive through Cantu, on their way to one of the biggest tourist attraction is the BUFADORA, where a natural blowhole can be admired up close.
It was back in 2016, when this much needed CAT SHELTER was founded by two cat-loving women, who clearly saw the need and provided the start-up funds. They named it KATTY KORNER. This place survives because of the regular generous donations of the local expat community, which pays for the cat’s housing, daily food, spay & neuter, medication, shots and regular doctors visits, plus for paid help for daily feeding and cleaning.
It takes a LOT to run a cat sanctuary, and, of course, we are always looking for volunteers with some extra time on their hands and love in their heart!
Since the beginning, we have placed over 100 CATS and KITTENS into “fur-ever” loving homes!
Katty Korner started out in a shelter in Cantu that also housed dogs. Some of the dogs were free to roam inside the shelter and some of the dogs didn’t like cats. Data, LInda and myself felt the cats needed their own place. It took a couple of months to find a place to house the cats and that’s how Katty Korner was started.
With the help of some of our community residents and PayPal, we hired a contractor, Fernando Munoz, to fix the inside of the apartment, to accumulate for the cats. Fernando did several special details to make it more comfortable for the cats. This all started in November of 2015. We rented the apartment with bessings of the landlord Frank Barba.
